“Lilium” is a song that sings in your ear human suffering.
It's the theme song from Japanese animation Elfen Lied (german for “elf song”).
It is sung by Kumiko Noma.
“Opening Theme: Elfen Lied - Lilium”
The lyrics is in Latin. Here's the lyrics and translation. (Source www.youtube.com)
Os iusti meditabitur sapientiam, Et lingua eius loquetur indicium. Beatus vir qui suffert tentationem, Quoniqm cum probates fuerit accipient coronam vitae. Kyrie, ignis divine, eleison. O quam sancta, quam serena, Quam benigma, quam amoena, O castitatis lilium. |
The mouth of the just shall meditate wisdom And his language shall become clear Blessed is he who suffers temptation Since he, with striving, shall receive the crown of life Lord, fire divine, have mercy O how sacred, how serene, how kind, how lovely O, lilly of chastity! |
Quote from Wikipedia about the song:
The opening and ending sequences feature artistic drawings of the principal characters. These characters are drawn in a style based on Gustav Klimt's paintings, including The Kiss, Adele Bloch-Bauer I, and others with similar imitating poses, colors, and patterns. The German song Elfenlied (“Elf Song”), from which the title takes its name, appears in the manga and is credited to the composer Hugo Wolf. A poem by Eduard Mörike is the basis for Wolf's version. The song does not appear in the anime as it is taught to Nyu by the manga-only character Nozomi. All episode titles have dual-titles in German.
